8th Period Math
Students in 7th grade use the math series called The Connected Math Project, 3rd Edition (or CMP3, for short). This is an extraordinary, inquiry-based math program.
Math Curriculum:
By following the Connected Mathematics program, Fairview students are engaged in mathematics topics that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards- Mathematics (http://www.corestandards.org/Math/). These standards outline consistent guidelines for what every student should be able to do in math at each grade level.
Embedded within the Common Core Standards, the students use the following Standards for Mathematical Practice on a daily basis:
Major Topics for Math Class:
Ratios and Proportions
Rational Numbers
Expressions and Equations
Geometry
Grading Categories:
40% Tests and Quizzes -- corrections are encouraged and will improve your score
30% In-Class Work -- includes warm-ups, Investigation Check-Ups, etc.
20% Homework -- late homework will lower 1 point per day
10% Participation -- active participation in class is beneficial to all students
Student Responsibilities:
Come to class prepared and on time
Maintain accurate notes and class materials
Participate in class on a regular basis
Be respectful, to people and materials
Regularly communicate with parents about Math class

- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
- Model with mathematics.
- Use appropriate tools strategically
- Attend to precision
- Look for and make use of structure.
- Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
